About Us

Welcome to St Mary's, the Parish Church of Sheviock in the Anglican Diocese of Truro and county of Cornwall, England.  Standing at the gateway to the Rame Peninsula since the eleventh century, this Church has served the communities within this Parish for over ten centuries.

In 2023 we entered a pastoral re-organisation scheme to bring together the two Benefices on the Rame Peninsula - the Benefice of Maker with Rame, Millbrook, Saint John and Torpoint and the Benefice of St Germans with Antony and Sheviock -  as one, under the newly appointed Oversight Minister, Reverend Jo Northey.  This scheme - to create the Benefice of Rame and Rivers Churches - was approved by the Church Commissioners in December 2024.

In order to safeguard this beautiful medieval church for the generations of the future and ensure that its heritage is widely appreciated, we have undertaken significant renovations.  Phase 1, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Carew Pole Charitable Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation, Cornwall Historic Churches Trust and community fundraising events was completed in the Summer of 2019.  We are still seeking funds to undertake an equally challenging Phase 2 as well as the repair to the 3m high boundary wall to the East of the churchyard, which collapsed in December 2019.

The completion of Phase 1 saw us take on a new role - as a Heritage Gateway - to enable more visitors to appreciate the heritage of this beautiful medieval building and indeed other heritage sites on the Rame Peninsula.  We have purposefully developed the Heritage Gateway into our  fundraising arm to preserve the church building and churchyard and we look forward to welcoming many new visitors to a wide variety of Heritage Gateway events, as well as our regular services.
