About Us
Our church is a multi-purpose Hall Church, with a large hall used for a range of community activities during the week as well as Sunday Services. We have a lively Junior Church, which meets during the Eucharistic service on Sundays at 9.30am. There is also a Lady Chapel available for weekday services, including a weekly service of Holy Communion using a liturgy from Iona, starting at 7.30pm on Tuesdays The door to the Lady Chapel is open on weekdays for anyone wishing to come in for quiet and peace. Morning and Evening Prayer are said in the Lady Chapel on weekdays (except Wednesdays) at 8.30am and 5.00pm.
During 2008/09 we celebrated 50 years in our current church building with a number of special events, especially over the weekends of 21/22 June and 27/28 September. We were delighted to welcome many who have worshipped here or used the hall for other activities over the years. About 4 years ago we had extensive work done to repair the roof, so the building was really safe and dry. That enabled us to move forward with plans for a major refurbishment of the kitchen/toilet/meeting room area, which was completed early in March 2015. This gives us a modern kitchen with facilities suitable for catering for 60-80 (sit-down meal) or 100 (buffet-style), which we hope will provide a useful venue for local residents and groups looking for a good entertaining space.
In 2016 we started a new "stay and play" group for 0-5 year olds on Tuesdays. This formed the starting point for the "Kidlington Community Hub at St John's" - a whole range of children's activities we are now hosting and/or organising to replace what was previously provided by the Kaleidoscope Children's Centre, which was closed in March 2017.
