Fund raising for the church roof
It costs a lot to keep our lovely little church running. Just the cost of insurance comes to nearly £100 a month. We are very grateful for all the support we get in meeting these bills.
But in addition to running costs, we found that the frequent cost of roof repairs as the slates age and the nails fail was more than we can afford. Damage caused by Storm Burt showed that we couldn't keep repairing the roof. Since then our fund raising has been focused on building up enough money to then be able to ask for grants to help reroof the church. This has been a big challenge for us and we really appreciate all help we got. In addition to our fundraising, we received a grant from Cornwall Historic Churches Trust and now we can announce that we have been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Work on the roof is now scheduled to start in January 2027. This is wonderful news.
There are still all the on-going costs and there will be more work needed. For example, some work is needed on the tower and once the roof has been done and the church building has had a chance to dry out we anticipate that some internal plaster will need renewing.
We sincerely appreciate anything you can give to keep this wonderful building safe and secure in its future.
You can give on-line to support us at Tremaine St Winwaloe - Parish Giving Scheme or by using the attached QR code which can also be found displayed in the church porch. Many thanks for all you give. We really do appreciate everyone's generosity.
