Celebrate with us on Saturday 8th April, the eve of Easter Sunday, at our Fire and Sunset service. Beginning at 8 pm, it will be led by the Rev'd Nicki Farr.

The service will start in the churchyard, gathering around the fire, while a selection of readings of the story of God are read aloud. As the sun sets and the night falls the congregation will move into the dark church carrying candles. This is to mark the end of the emptiness of Holy Saturday and leads into the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. This symbolically represents a passing from darkness to light which offers hope of the new life in Christ. The lights are then turned on to mark the start of Easter and Holy Communion will follow to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.

Where are we?

North Petherwin is a large Parish in a beautiful, predominantly rural area, situated just a few miles to the North West of Launceston. St Paternus, the parish church, is situated towards the southern end of the parish in the hamlet of North Petherwin and close to the village of Petherwin Gate, the main centre of population of the parish.

Your local Church is made up of people just like you! So do please introduce yourself to us if reading the pages of this website leads to you visiting our church in person for one of our services. We’d love to get to know you. Of course, you are most welcome to visit the church at other times during the day when it is light for prayer or quiet contemplation, or simply to explore it's beautiful expansive interior and grounds. Information is there to read or purchase and you will find it on the table in front of the bell tower. We do hope you find what you are looking for but you would be most welcome to contact us via our 'Get in Touch' page if not.

Church services are held on Sundays and usually begin at 10 am. Please find the latest details of services on our 'Services and Events' page, giving details of our services for generally the current month.

Our Benefice

Safeguarding

Our parish of North Petherwin is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO); please see below for details. The Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO) for North Petherwin Parish is BILL WILLIS. He is responsible for ensuring the coordination of any concerns about a child, young person or vulnerable adult, or the behaviour of an adult working with vulnerable groups. His role is to ensure that these are appropriately reported both to the statutory agencies and to the Diocesan Safeguarding Team.
