The name of the village, Egloskerry, means 'Church of Keri'. St Keri, was one of the twenty four children of King Brychan of Garthmadrun (Brycheiniog) in modern-day Wales. Several of his children became saints including St Nectan and St Petroc, or Petrock, and many churches in Cornwall are dedicated to King Brychan's children - nearby for example is St Clether dedicated to St Cleder.
The church was originally dedicated to St Ide and St Lydy on 14th September 1260, but in 1509 it was re-dedicated to St Keri and St Petrock.
