Lezant: St Briochus
Welcome
The Parish Church of Lezant (or Lansant) was first dedicated to St Briochus on 25th September 1259. In old Cornish, lan means ‘a place’ and sant can mean ‘holy’‘; Lansant, or from the 16th Century, Lezant, might therefore mean ‘the place of the Saint or Holy Man’. St Briochus (5th Century), a Briton by birth, converted many to Christ, before crossing to Brittany, where he founded a monastery at St Brieuc. The old, Norman, Grade II* listed church was enlarged in the 14th and 15th Centuries, culminating in the building of the tower in 1480.
We very much welcome visitors to come and have a look at our lovely church, perhaps to spend time in private prayer or even to join us in our worship!
Please do get in touch to confirm details.
