Baptism, Christenings and Confirmation
Congratualtions!
The next stage on your journey of faith is an exciting one whether this is planning for baptism for yourself or your child or if you are ready to make your vows and commitment through confirmation of your faith.
We look forward to accompanying you as you prepare for this next stage on your journey of faith.
BAPTISM
A baptism or Christening is often the first step we take in saying 'thank you' to God for the gift of life. Baptism marks the beginning of a persons journey of faith, which, we hope, will continue through the love and guidance of family members, godparents and the church family.
After your initial contact you will be sent a form to complete. This form provides us with your details, provisional dates and godparents’ details. Godparents must be already baptised. We understand that you may want to ask someone to take up this role who have not been baptised themselves, they are warmly welcome to consider baptism for themselves (please ask them to contact Revd Caroline) or they can simply become a sponsor.
Once we have received your form we will arrange to come and meet you at home to prepare you for the promises and commitments you will be making through baptism. Once we have completed this preparation we will be able to confirm a baptism date.
If you live in any of the parishes of the Upper Fal Parishes you will be invited to attend worship in any of our churches. Or come to Messy Church in Probus or drop in to Little Lights on a Thursday (term-time only). This is a chance for you to meet us and the worshipping community which you will be joining.
If you are a regular member of any or our worshipping communities, including Messy Church, we can arrange for the baptism to take place during a regular service. We find that many families who don’t regularly come to worship prefer a shorter service which we can offer at 12.30pm on a Sunday. We do not offer baptism during Lent or Advent.
If you live outside the parishes of the Upper Fal Parishes we are still happy to help you seek baptism, but we ask that baptism preparation is undertaken in the parish where you live. We can only arrange baptism once we have heard from your local parish priest and the appropriate preparation has taken place.
The Church of England website features more information about Christenings for children, and adult Baptism.
CONFIRMATION
In the Church of England, confirmation is a service where individiuals, already batised, publicly reaffirm their faith and vows, and receive the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands by the Bishop. It's a significant step in a Christian's journey of faith signifying commitment to following Jesus and becoming a more active member of the Church.
