We are pleased to announce that Reverend Amanda Evans has accepted the offer to be Interim Priest-in-Charge for a period of three years; she will serve us jointly with the parish of St. Mylor.A Licensing Service is being arranged for Tuesday 30th June at 7.00pm; this will, of course, have to be online. We look forward to welcoming Amanda to the parish, and to working with her and our friends at St. Mylor in the months and years ahead.Amanda and her family will continue to live in Falmouth, and the vicarage in Mylor will be occupied from late-June by the new curate for the Falmouth parishes.Should you wish, you can discover Amanda’s story on the Diocese of Truro website - https://trurodiocese.org.uk/faith-stories/amandas-story/ Amanda was born and brought up in Bristol, leaving at 18 to study languages at Southampton University. After careers in import/export in France, London and Bristol, Amanda married John and moved to rural Norfolk where both her daughters were born and she retrained as a teacher. The call to ordained ministry came over 10 years ago when they moved as a young family to North Cornwall and after a clear call from God to “step out of the boat” and follow him, the family moved to Oxford for Amanda to train full-time for ministry, being invited back down to Falmouth to serve her Curacy.Amanda lives in Falmouth with her husband John, youngest daughter Emma (who is a student nurse) and Jack Russell Nuala and is delighted to be appointed to this new role, joining the parishes of St Gluvias and St Mylor at the start of this new exciting journey together.
Following the Government guidance around non-essential contact, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have issued advice that public worship is suspended until further notice. Church of England Churches are to put public worship on hold and to become “a different sort of church” in the coming months, as we face the challenge of coronavirus. In light of this information all church services and events at St. Gluvias Church will be suspended until further notice. During this period, the church building will be open each Sunday between the hours of 11am and 2pm for anyone wishing to enter to make their own personal prayers. Should you need to, please email priest@stgluvias.org.uk or telephone 01326 341304.Thank you for your continued support during this challenging time. Jason Butland-Jones & Kathryn HodgeChurchwardensKeep us good Lord under the shadow of your mercy, in this time of uncertainty and distress. Sustain and support the anxious and fearful, and lift up all who are brought low; that we may rejoice in your comfort, knowing that nothing can separate us from your love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. And may God bless us all. Bishop Robert, Bishop of Exeter
