All Saints is a member of A Rocha's Eco Church scheme and achieved a Bronze Award in February 2022.
Some of the things that we have done:
Wihilst we are restricted in what we can do with our Grade 1 listed church, most of the lighting was already LED, but we have replaced all the remaining bulbs with LED bulbs where possible. We also try to make sure that our toilet rolls and cleaning products are environmentally-friendly and use china mugs for teas and coffes.
Our churchyard is closed and managed by the Parish Council, but we have agreed a wildlife-friendly mowing and hedge-cutting regime and encourage wild flowers with pollinator-friendly flowers in the beds alongside the path to the church porch. We are beginning to carry out wildlife surveys and encouraging the use of the churchyard for recreation and contemplation.
One of our Eco Church group members is also on the Parish Council's Green Spaces Group, looking at environmental initiatives within the village. We are a Fair Trade Church, have a stall selling fair trade goods at the monthly community market and use fair trade tea and coffee for our refreshments. Our toilet is twinned with one in South Sudan.
Through a permanent display in church and regular articles in the parish newsletter, we encourage church members, people in the village and visitors to consider how they can change their lifestyles to reduce their impact on the planet.
