These Prayer Boards have been a feature of our church since the 18th century. The paint of the frames and panels is abraded, scratched and covered in grime and various bird and bat accretions. It is well attached to the wood except on the Commandments board where it is flaking and has some losses in the gilded hinges between the tablets. The abrasion is most evident on the Commandments text where the background colour is worn away exposing the wood.
The treatment is divided into two phases, costing a total of £5820 (estimate)
• First is work that must be done before the boards are mounted on the wall and is considered essential work for the preservation of the panels.</span>
• Second is work that can be done before or after they are mounted and is restoration work that is not essential
