Today is the Third Sunday of Advent (also known as Gaudete Sunday) and our focus this week is on John the Baptist who heralded the coming of the Messiah.
Our readings and liturgy direct us towards Christ's birth and we endeavor to do so with a sense of alert watchfulness, and our fundamental Advent prayer remains 'Maranatha' - 'Our Lord, come' (1 Cor. 16:22).
Our readings this week come from Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24; and John 1:6-8, 19-28.
Our hymns are, 'Long ago, prophets knew', and 'On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry'.
You may wish to have an advent wreath or candle to hand as we light this during our service.
A service booklet to accompany this service can be downloaded below.
