About Us
St Mary the Virgin was built more than 700 years ago in the gothic style and has seen many changes over the years. The oldest feature is the 13th century piscina. Other notable features include the double hammerbeam roof with its 50 angels and the 15th century painting of St Christopher. The red brick tower was built in the 18h century and houses a ring of 12 bells, one of only 2 in Suffolk. The churchyard is managed with wildlife in mind and well worth walking around especially in spring and summer.
St Mary's church is open every day and all visitors are very welcome to enjoy the peace for a quiet prayer or join us for our various Sunday services and other events. We cater for all ages, ranging from Sunday Club, Discovery Club and Messy Church for our young people to get-togethers for all ages at our monthly coffee mornings, Swap Shop, Lunch Club for the elderly and House Groups for more in depth discussions. We support the wider community by having close links to our Primary School, supporting FIND (Families in Need) in Ipswich and being a Fairtrade church.
