Stowmarket, St Peter & St Mary

Welcome to St Peter and St Mary's Church.  We are a friendly, lively church situated in the heart of Stowmarket.  The church building is now open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 3:15pm.  Please feel free to drop in and enjoy our beautiful Grade 1 listed building.  We meet for worship every Sunday at 10am and our main worship service is streamed live each week.

The parish of Stowmarket: St Peter & St Mary is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer, PSO. The Diocese of St.Edmundsbury & Ipswich’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.

Christmas Tree Festival 2024

Occurring
for 31 days, 21 hours, 15 mins
Venue
Stowmarket, St Peter & St Mary
Address
Station Road West Stowmarket, IP14 1ES, United Kingdom

This will be the 20th consecutive year of the Christmas Tree Festival where individuals, groups and organizations have been invited to decorate a tree. This year the theme of the festival is Hope, Peace and Love, with the intention of highlighting the Christian element of Christmas.

The festival begins with the 'Grand Lights Switch-on' on Friday 22nd November at 6pm by Charlie Haylock, a noted local outhor and raconteur. The church will then be open on Saturday 23rd November from 9am to 3pm and on Sunday 24th November from 11:30am to 4pm.

After this, the festival will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 3pm up to and including 24th December.

On 10th and 17th December from 5:30pm to 7:30pm there will be two special 'Sensory Evenings', for those with particular sensory needs who would appreciate being able to visit without any unnecessary noise. These will be two quiet evenings with no music.

If you'd like to come to see the trees lit up at night, there are two late opening evenings on Thursdays 12th and 19th December from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

There is no charge to visit, but donations are gratefully received to help with the upkeep of our ancient church building.

Each week we have a service in church which can also be viewed on YouTube from 10am on Sunday morning. We also host Zoom Prayer Meetings on Wednesday evenings. Details below...
