Preservation Society
The purpose of St. Mary's Church East Bergholt Preservation Society is to raise funds to help preserve this vital part of village heritage for the benefit of future generations. Since the inauguration on 17th June 1997, with the considerable support of many local residents, the Society has contributed more than £239,000 to church building projects. Most recently the Society has paid for the Chancel roof to be retiled. It has established the biannual East Bergholt Gardens Open Day, an event enjoyed by many which attracts visitors from far afield. The last one took place on 4th June 2023.
A new hand-crafted wooden noticeboard in memory of the founder members, Oliver Eley and Terry Marshall, was blessed at the Harvest service on 8th October 2023.
It operates separately from St Mary's Church and is it's own registered charity. It is run by a committee of Trustees.
Membership is open to all and costs £10.00pa. Anyone is welcome to join to help secure the continual preservation of these historic buildings as a communal meeting place for the present and future generations.
