Getting here

The Chapel of the Order of the Holy Paraclete is set in the spectacular surroundings of St Hilda's Priory with a commanding view east towards St Hilda's Abbey ruins on the cliffs above Whitby; the town stretches out in the valley between both.  The Sneaton Castle Centre, which was formerly St Hilda's School, is on site.

The Order of the Holy Paraclete was established in 1915 by Mother Margaret Cope as a teaching Order of Anglican Nuns.  The Priory is the Mother House of the Order which has branch houses in Whitby, near Redcar, and in Ghana and Swaziland.  There are also Sisters working in York Minster and in the Archbishop of York's residence, Bishopthorpe.  The Order also runs the St Oswald Pastoral Centre in Sleights (GR 54.46099,-0.675316)

Whilst the Chapel is private the Sisters do welcome visitors and retreatants to join them in their regular worship.

Visitors to the Priory should ask for the Guest Sister on 01947 602079 www.ohpwhitby.org.uk

Visitors to Sneaton Castle Centre should phone reception on 01947 600051  www.sneatoncastle.co.uk

Visitors to St Oswald's Centre should ring the Sister-in-Charge on 01947 810496 www.stoswaldspastoralcentre.org.uk

Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals may take place at the Chapel.  Those eligible comprise members of the Tertiary Order (lay members of the Order of the Holy Paraclete); former members of St Hilda's School ("Old Girls"); and members of the regular Sunday Congregation.  In addition those who have worked at the Priory or Centre long-term may be eligible.  The Chapel is not normally available to anyone else; regulations apply for anyone else wishing to be considered, details may be obtained from the Order of the Holy Paraclete.
