Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence; from the middle ages it became the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross.
We invite you to join us at the beginning of this year's journey through Lent to our Lord’s passion and resurrection. In preparation Christians take to heart the call to repentance and the assurance of forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel, and so grow in faith and in devotion to our Lord.
The service includes Holy Communion and all are welcome.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Kirkdale: St Hilda's is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). The Diocese of York’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO.
If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO [who is Mrs Frances Hoyle, her contact number is 01439 770481 and the email address is [email protected]] or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor [https://www.dioceseofyork.org.uk/safeguarding].
If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
