Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent and it will take place this year on Wednesday 14th February 2024 at 10am. This service will replace our usual Wednesday Morning one.
Ash Wednesday is a time for deep reflection and penitence. It is a time for watching and praying just as Jesus asked his disciples to do before he was crucified.
During the service Of Ash Wednesday a cross of ashes and oil (made from last year's palm crosses) is placed on our foreheads in the sign of a cross. This is a symbol reminding us of our own mortality. The minister reminds us this when placing the cross on our foreheads he says "Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return"
Anyone who attends this service can receive ashes, not only practicing Christians.
