Concert de chants à la tombée du nuit 6 September. ..... From Paddy Carpenter : "I attach below news of the next concert to be held in the Abbey at Pontigny on Friday 6 September. It will be directed by the new director of music Carlos Rodriguez Otero who replaces James Whitbourn who very sadly died earlier this year. Carlos is a brilliant young chef de choeur and the singers, barring a member of staff and the chaplain, are all of student age. I hope some of you can make it. Best wishes to you all. Paddy"

Concert Paul Ji 19 October From Rose Luo : "Dear friends and family,
We are happy to share with you that Paul will give his first piano recital at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on Saturday, 19th October, 2024.
Paul is the winner of 2019 French 2 “Prodiges”. He is a Young Steinway artist with his first piano album recorded and released by Warner Classics. Paul performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world including Berlin Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall in New York and la Laeiszhalle in Hambourg.
The evening program includes:
Chopin Ballade n° 2, Nocturne op. 27 n° 2, Sonate n° 3
Etudes op. 10 n° 1, n° 5, n° 10, opus. 25 n° 6
24 Préludes op. 28
Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante op.22
Here are a few WORDS FROM THE PIANIST
My program tonight brings you on the precious path of an evening walk with Chopin: from Chopin’s monumental Third Sonata, to his 24 Préludes, where each piece is irreplaceable and irreplicable. We will experience together more questions than we can handle. What is being conveyed? Is it loss? Is it nostalgia? Or is it profound hope? These questions are not distinct attempts at grasping the essence of Chopin’s music. Many questions arise at the same time, and many answers are delivered through the music without clear elucidation. The questions all meld into one. Words fail me when I try to explain what I feel in Chopin’s music. Schumann ventured into this ineffability by comparing Chopin’s works to “cannons buried in flowers.” His music is refined yet bursts with passion; it whispers consolation yet inflames the mind with idyllic bliss. It carries noble sophistication, but is also full of rustic simplicity. Regardless of the emotion, in the words of Arthur Rubinstein, “Chopin’s music makes me feel like going home.” I hope this walk with Chopin will bring you back home, wherever it is. Though I may not be able to explain what exactly Chopin’s music provokes in us, I can assuredly say that his music speaks directly to the heart.
