We welcome enquiries about ‘Christenings’, from those who live in the parishes or those who are regular worshippers at our churches. The word ‘Christening’ is a sort of nickname that some people use for baptism. In fact, we’re talking about the same service.
What is it all about?
Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God. When choosing to have your child baptised you make a promise that you will teach them that God loves them and help them to follow the example of Jesus. Jesus himself was baptised in the River Jordan by John the Baptist.

When will my child’s baptism take place?
Baptisms usually take place during a morning service in the local church. When you meet with Canon Graham you will discuss times and dates for the service. Baptism is the joining of your child to our church family and the welcome is an important part of this as the church promise to support and pray for you and your child.
How do I prepare for the baptism?
Whether you are seeking a baptism for your child, or you want to be baptised yourself, you will be making promises before God and the church family about your belief in God and how you want to follow the example and teachings of Jesus. These are important promises and to help prepare for a baptism you will have a meeting with Revd Ann. This will give you an opportunity to understand what happens in the service and the promises that you and the godparents will be making.
Who should I choose to be Godparents?
The website contains guidance about choosing godparents and explains their role.
