What the Society has achieved over the past few years:

Hessett Church Preservation Society was set up in September 2006 to help maintain the fabric of the church for the future and to encourage its use by the community.

Over the last decade, the society has paid for restoration of the exterior walls, repairs to the roof and windows of the church along with the restoration of the 1st World War memorial cross in the church grounds and refurbishment of the footpath from the road.

However, the church is an old building and so the repairs ‘wish list’ is growing and now includes essential repairs to masonry inside the chancel, ironwork around the bells, stained glass window leading, woodwork in the vestry and repairs to the organ.

The medieval church building is used by many people - for weddings and funerals, by churchgoers and by people who just want to appreciate its rare medieval wall paintings and beautiful medieval stained glass.

Repairs - All your support has enabled the Hessett Church Preservation Society to provide £20,000 towards the repairs on the church and which was done in late 2019 as you can see from the scaffolding.

The money had allowed the PCC to undertake the following repairs that were considered urgent by the architect. Repairs to the west window below.

The repairs have also included flashing on the roof.

The porch door and gutters reattached.

Urgent repairs have been made to windows and some of the tower pinnacles which could have fallen off in a storm.

 However, we still need to repair the vestry medieval woodwork and our important 15th century stained glass which will need major specialist work. For example, this window is in need of restoration.
