When singing at services we are a traditional C of E SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) robed choir. As at December 2022 we have a total of 12 choristers. We are always open to welcome new choristers. We have weekly choir practices on a Thursday evening.
The choir performs two or three concerts each year. In June 2022 we put on a concert in the church as part of the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. We invited others in our community to join us in what was a highly successful concert with an estimated audience of 200 people packed into the church. On a smaller scale, but equally successful, in December 2022 the choir staged a Christmas concert for the Elmswell Women’s Institute.
During Covid lockdowns, a period when the choir was unable to meet in person we made a total of 25 “virtual” recordings. This involved individual choir members, in their own homes, recording their voice against a backing track. The individual recordings were then emailed to a central point and “stitched together” using a clever piece of software. Recordings included a variety of hymns, carols, anthems and Taize. Several of the recordings were used in the Benefice online services, and recordings were also used in both Haughley’s “virtual” Carol Service and in the “virtual Easter Celebration. A sample virtual recording of Stainer's God So Loved The World, can be played through the above YouTube link.
