Ash Wednesday in Middle ESK Moor

You are most welcome to join us for Holy Communion with the traditional Ashing on Ash Wednesday at St. Mary’s Goathland at 10:00 a.m. or St. Matthew’s Grosmont at 6:00 p.m.

These services will include a musical and poetic ‘Meditation on the Seven Last Words’ of Jesus, with poems by Kenneth Wilson, and movements from the Six Suites for Solo Cello, by J.S. Bach. In between each of Kenneth’s poems he will perform a Sarabande on his cello from one of the Suites, and the work is framed by other movements from the Suites.

Our benefice, Middle Esk Moor, was created in 2000 and comprises the parishes of Glaisdale with Lealholm, Egton, Grosmont and Goathland. Our churches are set in the spectacular countryside of the moors and dales of the North York Moors National Park. They can be reached via the A171 Middlesbrough to Whitby road, or the A169 Whitby to Pickering road.
