Film night restarts on WEDNESDAY 26th FEBRUARY at 7.00pm in Church House, with “The Lady in the Van”, the first in a season of films starring the late Dame Maggie Smith. The film tells the true story of author and playwright Alan Bennett's strained friendship with Miss Mary Shepherd, an eccentric homeless woman who Bennett befriended in the 1970s before allowing her temporarily to park her Bedford van in the driveway of his Camden house. It is a tale that is funny, poignant and life-affirming. While ostensibly a comedy, “The Lady in the Van” is also a profoundly serious movie - what the movie is about is the nature of charity.
