Canon Erik Wilson, new Interim Minister at St John's, spoke about our Sunday service on the 4th October:"Around 40 people gathered to worship God and take part in the first Sunday service at St John’s Church since March. "Many of the congregation have been part of the St John’s family for decades and so the return was very emotional for some." "It was a heartfelt celebration - although COVID regulations may have made it rather muted!"Next Sunday’s service will be Holy Communion, which will be conducted in accord with COVID guidelines; the theme of the service is the faithfulness of God.
A new chapter begins in October 2020 in the Parish of Newland St John, one of the 33 parishes in Hull through which the Church of England welcomes every resident or visitor in the name of Jesus Christ, inviting all to experience the reality of God’s transforming love.After a break in regular services in the spring and summer, St John’s new Interim Minister the Revd Canon Erik Wilson (pictured) looks forward to meeting friends old and new at 10.30am on Sunday 4th October at the first of its re-started Sunday services.For the time being this will be a Service of The Word most Sundays, with Holy Communion on the second Sunday of each month.Current restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic prevent the congregation from singing; however visiting musicians will enhance St John’s worship, and future services may include recorded music until such time as singing can resume.Erik Wilson was Vicar of St Barnabas, Linthorpe in Middlesbrough for many years, and Vicar of St Martin's, Hull, from 1989 to 1998: “I’m surprised and delighted to find myself back in ministry in Hull, and look forward to discovering what our faithful God has in mind for this new stage in the parish’s journey."
