A short service of Holy Communion for Lent, including the imposition of ashes.

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Barnabas Swanland
Address
Main Street (Corner of St. Barnabas Drive) Swanland Hull, HU14 3QP, United Kingdom

Lent is a time when we prepare for Easter – We can celebrate the new life and resurrection of Easter Day better when we have spent time understanding why Jesus suffered and died for us, which we do during Lent.

The "imposition of ashes" can help with this... as the season of Lent begins we are reminded that God is gracious and merciful to those who call on Him with repentant hearts. It is a simple act; as a sign of our penitence and a symbol of our mortality, the vicar draws a cross in ashes on the forehead of each congregation member, speaking the words:

"Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ"

There is no requirement to take part in this; you can just observe. We then share communion.

St Barnabas Swanland

Welcome to St. Barnabas - a Church in the village of Swanland, a few miles west of Hull in East Yorkshire, where everyone is welcome.

Our 10.00 am Sunday services are friendly and relaxed, and we offer activities for different age groups. As part of the local community in Swanland, we love to share happy events such as weddings and christenings and we are here to help during some of life's difficult times.   Or perhaps you need some quiet space or someone to talk to or to pray with.   If so, please contact us, or turn up - Sunday at 10.00 am or Monday-Thursday from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon - our church is open and I am usually in the church building at this time.

If you want to know more, sign up here to receive regular details of our church activities (you can unsubscribe at any time).

Our church is made up of ordinary people.   We're not perfect, but we are continuing to learn more about God’s love and the difference He can make in our lives.

We would love to welcome you here.

Revd. Kevin Barnard (Vicar)
