The Friends of St Peter’s have helped maintain our beautiful, ancient Grade II* listed church and its churchyard since 2012. Their financial donations help ensure the church will be here in our village for future generations. It costs over £10,000 a year just to keep the church building open. Maintaining the churchyard costs between £1,500 and £3,000 a year.Expensive repair bills come in regularly and sometimes unexpectedly. In the last two years we have spent over £30,000 on repairs to the stonework and yet more will be needed in the future. Much is still needed to ensure our building is fit for the future: greener heating and lighting is just one example. We receive no financial support to help with any of these maintenance costs from the Church of England, from Central or Local Government or from the Parish Council. Our congregation gives generously and also fundraises energetically, but we also have to meet the costs of our clergy and church activities – over £20,000 a year and rising. We are not asking for your help with those costs. Your donation will be used only to maintain, preserve and enhance the fabric of the church and the churchyard.
