Love Food Hate Waste

Over 50 people attended a thoroughly entertaining and informative cookery demonstration by TV chef Nigel Brown at St Peter’s Church, Hutton Cranswick, on Friday evening. Nigel has a talent for finding inventive and tasty ways to cook nourishing and inexpensive meals. This time he showed how to make a beef chuck steak stew, a pork shoulder casserole and hearty lentil soup. His top tips for eating more healthily and at less cost included using cheaper cuts of meat, increasing the vegetable content of stews and using wholegrains rather than rice or pasta. The audience enjoyed tasting his recipes, including the 15 litres of soup made by the St Peter’s Mission Committee. You don’t need to be a master chef to learn from Nigel. Just try using lemon juice rather than salt as a flavour enhancer and once you’ve seen his method of chopping garlic you’ll never look back!
