Our Building
Grade 2 building listed in 1984. The style is Victorian Gothic Revival and there is some very good early 20th century stained glass. The present building was constructed in 1862 on the site of the earlier church built in the 14th century as a chapel of ease to Snaith Priory.
Music and Worship
We have a peal of six bells which are kindly rung for us by members of the Selby Abbey ringers. We can also ring them through an electric carillon installed in the 1980's.
The organ was built by Forster & Andrews of Hull and installed in 1864. The opening recital was given by W H Monk the celebrated Victorian church composer best known for the tunes he composed for the hymns "Abide with me" and "All things bright and beautiful." The organ has been well maintained but apart from the installation of an electric blower remains unchanged from its original build. 154 years on and still going strong!
Our choir is known as the Church Singers a small, informal group who lead worship from the congregation. This is a revival of how things were before the Oxford movement caused singers to robe and sit in the Chancel as a choir. We rehearse once a week and new members are always welcome. For more information please contact our Organist via this site.
