This month I feel a change in the air. Philip MacDonald is due to retire this year, and has written his last Dear Friends article. Have a long and happy retirement Philip, and thank you for your contributions and support - both have been most welcome. It is also six years since I agreed to be the editor of Connected; I always thought that I would do this for five years maximum, and yet here I am...And of course we welcome King Charles III formally this month. Also in Connected this month, Brayton WI samples wine with John Butterwick; the exact details of the event seem somewhat sketchy - Jean was unsure if 25 people sampled 4 bottles, or 4 people sampled 25 bottles. But either way they enjoyed the afternoon.St Wilfrid’s looks forward to its Spring Fair and we report on another great recital at the church organ by the very talented Matthew Collins.
This month Revd. Roy Shaw takes us along the Camino de Santiago, (the Way of St James) in northern Spain. This undertaking is not for the faint-hearted!Jill Clarke reports on the Mothers’ Union meeting in which Dan Thomas, curate, described his experiences at Selby Abbey. There is also an overview of Passion Week, 2nd to 9th September, that I copied from Parish Pump (Bless them!) and an apology to the St Francis Gentle Movement ladies who slipped into my Spam Folder in December.Hilary Putman tells of the Walk For International Women’s Day that took place on 8th March. Finally, and disappointingly, there has not been a sighting of Bodgit & Scarper this month...
This month we tackle the thorny subject of spring cleaning, and how to raise funds for your favourite charity by making room in your home.Jill Clarke reports on the Mothers’ Union meeting in which they celebrated 85 years of the establishment of a branch in Brayton, and also on Sue Thomson's experiences at a recent Lambeth conference. We also hear from Archbishop Stephen Cottrell on decisions made by the General Synod earlier in February, and Pat Jarvis, churchwarden at Saint Wilfrid’s, updates us all on happenings in the parish. Finally, there is a rare sighting of Bodgit and Scarper in the south porch…
During January, we were blessed with a visit from Archbishop Stephen Cotterell to St Wilfrid. It was a pleasure to meet with the Archbishop.Elsewhere, the Dear Friends article this month was written by Revd. Paul Finlinson on the difficulties that social media may present to us today.Jill Clarke reports on the recent confirmation of Ian George at St Francis, and relates the games afternoon, enjoyed by the Mothers Union. We also celebrate the Diamond wedding anniversary of John and Sheila Noble, who were married on St Valentine's Day during the harsh winter weather in 1963.
