Getting here
St Mary's, Birkin (Sleepy Hollow) Come and visit our beautiful church which lies on the edge of Birkin village. Being a Grade I listed building, the church dates from around 1150. Of particular interest are the Apse and south doorway. The church has been praised by many writers; Pevsner called it " A complete Norman village church".
Lying amidst picturesque countryside, St Mary's is an ideal venue for Weddings and Christenings. A book was recently written about Birkin and the surrounding area which contains a great deal of historic information relating to the church and the village itself. The title of the book is 'Sleepy Hollow' and is written by Henry Farrar.
We hold regular services throughout the year - the highlight being our candlelit Carol Service just before Christmas.
