Skipwith’s Anglo-Saxon Heritage in its Yorkshire Setting – a Lecture by Professor Joyce Hill of Leeds University.

Skipwith is one of the remarkable churches in Yorkshire which incorporate substantial parts of their original Anglo-Saxon building. This illustrated lecture sets Skipwith in this context, drawing attention to distinctive features of Anglo-Saxon churches, and showing how builders in subsequent centuries have embraced these earlier buildings, honouring the continuing worship on the site. The lecture will also look at the larger context of Skipwith’s famous Ragnarök Stone, a product of Anglo-Scandinavian integration within the Danelaw in the later part of the Anglo-Saxon period.
