Accessibility

There are 2 toilets in our adjacent church hall. One is fully accessible. The hall has level access.

Baby changing facilities are in the accessible toilet in the church hall. This is next to the church in the churchyard. A potty and stepping stool are also available. Please take home your used nappies.

There are two bike stands near to the main church entrance gate, close to the noticeboard at the end of the path.

St. Mary's church is located on Church Lane. This is a narrow residential street with a dead end. The car park is in the church yard, past the church on the right. This is small, maximum 7 cars can fit in. It is notsuitable for disabled parking, as access to church is via an uneven path. On street parking is available and there is a dropped kerb at the church gate. We ask that everyone who parks on Church Lanem kindly shows consideration to our neighbours. Do not block drives or park on the footpath.

There is one fully accessible toilet in the church hall next to the church. This has level access.

A shallow, wide ramp provides access to the church building. Inside the church building we have ramps to all access to the chancel and altar area for those with limited mobility and those in wheelchairs and puch chairs.

A hearing loop is in use for all services. Please request this from the clergy if, for some reason, it has not been turned on.

Bibles, service books and hymn books are available in large print - please ask

Assistance dogs are very welcome at all services and events.

The church has level access. There are ramps to provide easy access to the Chancel and altar. The church hall has level access. There is an accessible toilet in the church hall.


Our Building

The church is open during the week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am until 4pm. Everyone is welcome.

St. Mary's has some beautiful stained glass windows. Come and see them for yourself, they are especially glorious when the sun shines through them.

We have reached Bronze level and are working towards Silver level.

St. Mary's is a listed building.


Music and Worship

St. Mary's has a peak of 6 bells. Our team of ringers often ring before the 9.30am Sunday service. We have many visiting bands who come to ring peals and quarter peals on our bells.

St.Mary's has an organ. This is usually played during the 9.30am Sunday services and for special services throughout the year.


Groups, Courses and Activities

St Mary's hopes to run an Alpha Course during 2025. Contact us for more information.

Strensall Community Helpers run the Spearehead Community café every Wednesday morning from 9-12 in the church hall.
Refreshments are served in the hall between the Sunday services from 10.30-11am.

Holiday clubs run for primary-aged children at various times during the year. Contact us for more information.

Our Little Fishes Group welcomes babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers along with their carers on Tuesday mornings in the Spearehead Hall. The group meets from 9.15-10.45am during City of York term-time. Come along for fun, toys, crafts, books, outside play and singing. There is a lovely baby area. Most importantly for the grown ups, refreshments are served and new friends are waiting to be made. All parents and carers are welcome.


Help for Visitors

Free WiFi is available in the hall and in the church hall. Please ask us for the passwords.

St. Mary's is a Fairtrade church.

St.Mary's and the church hall both have excellend Audio-Visual facilities.

St. Mary's is located within a conservation area.

St.Mary's church hall, Spearehead Hall, is available for hire. The hire rates are competitive. Look at the church website for more information.

St. Mary's has an ACTS 435 Advocate. They are available at all times.
