We are so looking forward to our History Day on Saturday 17th August! The parish of Marton and Moxby has such a fascinating history and we're going to be sharing some of the stories of key people, from early Marton to more recent days, through short presentations, photos, pictures and documents. For example, we've been having great fun looking at some wonderful illustrated manuscripts that depict the daily lives of nuns and monks, as well as everyday countryfolk of the time. Starting at 9.30am there will be 5 presentations across the day, finishing with an optional pilgrimage walk from Marton Church via the former site of Marton Priory to Crayke Church to see their window dedicated to St Cuthbert. For more information and to book your free place please contact Caroline at martonintheforest@gmail.com or leave a message with your details on 01347 878242.
Looking forward so much to our Quiet Day tomorrow. If you'd like to join us for the day, or any part of the day, our door will be wide open from 9.45 for a cuppa before we relax into a day of short talks about prayer, followed by space for quiet and relaxation and contemplation in the church and churchyard! If you're staying for the day, please bring your own picnic lunch. We plan to be finished by about 3pm. This mini-retreat/pilgrimage is free, with any donations to Marton Church funds. One of our projects is to replace our 'very tired' roadside signs which welcome passers by and confirm that the church and churchyard are open to visitors.
