The weather was bright and sunny when over one hundred visitors enjoyed the excellent display of Christening gowns at St Andrew’s on Saturday 26th August. The sixteen gowns on display, which ranged in age from 1880 to 2022, were kindly loaned to the church for the occasion by parishioners and friends and were displayed on either side of the nave and on the altar.
Complimenting the gown display was a superb array of floral arrangements created by St Andrew’s team of very talented flower arrangers, with a very cleverly designed centrepiece arrangement on the 12th Century font representing water flowing from the baptismal ewer into the silver baptismal bowl.
Visitors were also able to enjoy a fascinating talk on the history and architecture of the church, whilst the Thorpeness and Aldringham Heritage Group provided a presentation of one of the churches greatest Victorian benefactors. Peter Drew also kindly loaned his very comprehensive Aldringham and Thorpeness archive books which promote much relocation of memories of the parish. The Friends of St Andrews provided refreshments and an array of very tempting cakes.
