Ash Wednesday - the start of Lent

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Mary's
Address
Clensmore Street Kidderminster, DY10 2JN, United Kingdom

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent - the 40 day period that leads us up to Holy Week and Easter. The whole season of Lent has are more sober, pensive and penitential feel to it. Ash Wednesday in particular is an occasion to call to mind our slips and failings, and to be reminded of God's goodness and mercy.
At St Mary's there is a service at 7 pm - a eucharist (the service where we receive the blest bread and wine). As p;art of this service worshippers can have the sign of the cross marked on their foreheads wish ash - hence the name of the day. It is a sign of that we rely on God to forgive and to cleanse us.
All are welcome to share in this service.

St Mary's

St Mary's is the historic Parish Church of Kidderminster.  It is the beautiful place where our church members and visitors gather every Sunday to offer praise and prayers to God, and to be refreshed and equipped to live out our Christian life in the week ahead.  Because of its place in the history of Kidderminster we are often the location for civic services for the whole town - most notably on Remembrance Sunday each year.  We welcome anyone who wants to join us for worship or our other activities, or to step into the beauty of the building - a place where God's presence can bring calm and stillness in the hectic rush of life.

Our Sunday worship is traditional with a robed choir and hymns accompanied by the organ. Families and children are welcome .

The church is a historic building.  During the summer months we welcome visitors on Tuesdays and Thursdays  (from 11 am to 3 pm) who come to explore this building where prayer has been offered for centuries.  Look at this website around Easter 2025 to see when this will begin again.

We exist to honour God and proclaim the Gospel, to nourish followers of Jesus Chist and to serve the community.   We are part of a Local Ecumenical Partnership with Trinity Methodist and a member of Churches Together in Kidderminster supporting the Foodbank and Street Pastors in the town.
