bats near the belfry

Here's a short video filmed by one of our bellringers last week of our resident bat population emerging at dusk. There are definitely no bats in the belfry at S.Peter's as we had a bat survey carried out as part of the Bats in Churches project a few years ago. Click here for details of the survey https://www.facebook.com/share/p/hfPZ1pvREbT6Ld1Q/All our bats, roost (live) in the many trees in the churchyard. They can squeeze into tiny holes and crevices in the truck of the tree and then emerge at dusk to hunt for insects. The bats in the video are most likely Pipistrelle bats or Saprano Pipistrelle bats. It would be interesting to find out what other species we have! Many thanks to Katie, our Tower Captain for taking the video
