If you are like me, you will be wondering where

August has gone!

August Bank Holiday weekend is here – the last Bank
Holiday of the year – as a friend of mine says - its all

down-hill now ‘til Christmas!
What better way to mark the Bank Holiday than by
meeting Benefice friends and neighbours at St
Leonard’s church on Sunday? A time to worship
together and catch up on family news and the

summer’s events.

Next week’s evening service in White Ladies Aston will
be a Thank you Service, to recognise and to say thank
you to everyone who supports the work and life of the
church and community. A relaxed service with hymns,

readings and prayers.
A thought for the season
To greet the new morn
Sunshine on golden corn
Tread the meadow for a while
Look around and raise a smile.
Gift of life in seasons grow
A gentle breeze to always blow
As we value nature’s way
Thank you for another day.

Some thoughts and prayers
………A thank you

We thank you, O God, for the pleasures you have
given us through our senses;
for the glory of thunder, for the mystery of music,
the singing of birds and the laughter of children.
We thank you for the delights of colour,
the awe of the sunset,
the wild roses in the hedgerows,
the smile of friendship.
We thank you for the sweetness of flowers
and the scent of hay.

Truly, O Lord, the earth is full of your riches!
Amen. (Edward King 1829-1910)
……..Our young people

For our teenagers who have received their A level and
GCSE results over the last couple of weeks. Some of us
may have children or grandchildren at this stage in life
and we all recognise how stressful and how difficult a

time it can be.

There are so many pressures imposed on young
people by themselves, their schools, sometimes their
families, by society and social media. We think about
them all – those celebrating good results and those
worrying about their not so good results.
We think about young people facing decisions about
school, college, university and leaving home for the
first time. Maybe competing for an apprenticeship or
looking for a job to begin their working-life.
We think about parents who too have to adjust to the
changes in family life and the realities of their children
moving away. – empty nest-syndrome can be
devastating to some as they adapt once more to a life
without children around the home.
We ask and hope that young people will realise that
there is more to life than good exam results and that
worth is not measured by bits of paper. Life is bigger
and better than that and has so much to offer.
So we say to our young people….
Be who you are and not what the world wants you to

be.

We cannot always choose the music life plays for us
but we can choose how we dance to it.

Collect
God of constant mercy,
who sent your Son to save us:
remind us of your goodness,
increase your grace within us,
that our thankfulness may grow,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
