O God, you declare your almighty power
most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:
mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace,
that we, running the way of your commandments,
may receive your gracious promises,
and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

This Saturday afternoon 19 August, at the home of
Janet Russell in Upton Snodsbury, will be held a fund-
raising event in aid of St Kenelm’s church.
A traditional English home-made cream tea will be
served and there will be a raffle and bring and buy

stall too.

Everyone is welcome to come along, to meet up with
friends and neighbours, and to raise some money for

the church.

Janet’s address is Perry Close Cottage, Pershore Road,

Upton Snodsbury.

This week’s service is at St John the Baptist, White
Ladies Aston. A chance to meet up with friends from
around the Benefice and worship together.
Next week’s service – the last Sunday in August and
therefore the last of the summer circulating – will be
at St Leonard’s Broughton Hackett. Please do make a
note to join Revd Claire and the congregation of St
Leonard’s as August draws to a close.
Advance notice of a Thank You Service to be held at
White Ladies Aston on 3 September at 6.00pm. A
service to say ‘thank you’ to all those, whether from
the village or not, who contribute in so many ways to
the life of the church and community.
Please do contact Revd Claire if you would like a chat
about faith, life and the universe or a particular worry.
She can be contacted on 07921 101320 or
[email protected]

Are you interested in exploring your Christian Faith
further and getting confirmed?
Revd Canon Sarah Dangerfield, Revd Claire Billington
and Revd Katryn Leclezio are delighted to announce
that they will be preparing candidates for a
Confirmation Service on Sunday 5 November at
11.00am with Bishop John in St John the Baptist

Church, Fladbury.

Their intention is to hold four confirmation
preparation evenings with candidates from the
Bowland Benefice, Five-Alive Parish and Bredon Hill
Group of Churches and any other neighbouring

benefices.

They will take the themes for discussion and learning
from Rowan Williams’ book, Being a Christian - from
the book’s four chapters on Baptism, the Bible, the
Eucharist, and Prayer. Katryn, Claire and Sarah will
each accompany an evening.
If you would like to be confirmed (or baptised and
confirmed) then please in the first instance, contact
Claire for an initial discussion.
The four sessions will be held on
Monday 18 September, Monday 9 October,
Wednesday 18 October, and Wednesday 25 October
from 7.00pm to 8.30pm at Fladbury Rectory.
The date for the rehearsal for the service will be

advised in due course.
A summer meditation…….

that I have offered in The Pews News previously but it

is always helpful to revisit.

Whatever your faith, Christian or not, or if you have

no faith at all.

Wherever you are on life’s unpredictable journey,
whether you have found your spiritual home

or are still looking,

this following ancient Sandskrit poem offers a good

way of living for us all.
Look well to this day,
for it is life,
the very best of life.
In its brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence,
the joy of growth
the splendour of action
the glory of power.
For yesterday is but a memory
and tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, if well-lived makes
every yesterday a memory of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day.
