Coronation weekend of King Charles 111

and Queen Camilla

Prayers for the weekend
Lord, in your mercy:
Hear our prayer.

Today especially we pray for King Charles,
for strength to serve our world-wide family of nations;
for courage to defend the Faith in word and deed;
for a spirit of devotion and duty;
and for grace to care for his people.

Amen.
Almighty God,
The fountain of all goodness,
bless out Sovereign King Charles
and all who are in authority under him;
that they may order all things in wisdom and equity,

righteousness and peace
to the honour and glory of your name.

Amen.

Some of us may have memories of Queen Elizabeth’s
coronation in 1953 – mine is of a very hot and dark
Village Hall with a television in one corner and lots of
people gathered to watch. Jelly and ice cream was
served and I was promptly sick!
If you have distant memories or if a coronation is
completely new, this will be a unique occasion.
If you are interested in the liturgy and music of the
Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on
Saturday, there is a helpful guide with brief details of
the historical significance and symbolism of the
different parts, and an explanation to changes to the
traditional service to better reflect and embrace the
diversity of society today. The link is:

King Charles’ Prayer for his future life as King
God of compassion and mercy whose Son was sent
not to be served but to serve, give grace that I may
find in thy service perfect freedom and in that
freedom knowledge of thy truth. Grant that I may be a
blessing to all thy children, of every faith and
conviction, that together we may discover the ways of
gentleness and be led into the paths of peace,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
