Bowland Benefice - Pews News
27 October 2024 - Bible Sunday
Blessed Lord,
who caused all holy Scriptures to be written
for our learning:
help us so to hear them,
to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them
that, through patience,
and the comfort of your holy word,
we may embrace and for ever hold fast
the hope of everlasting life,
which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

has proved so popular that it will now take place in
Church in White Ladies Aston instead of The Parish
Room.
We welcome the Revd Alma Organ to our Benefice
over the next couple of weeks. She will be taking the
Communion services in White Ladies Aston and
Peopleton this Sunday, the service for All Souls on
Friday 1 November in Broughton Hackett and the
Communion in Peopleton on 3 November.
Alma tells me that she and husband Robin love
coming to our Benefice as they are made so welcome
and feel very much at home among us.
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden
death of Phil Mullington a few days ago.
Phil was a great friend and supporter of many in
Peopleton and across the Benefice and he worked
tirelessly for The Friends of St Nicholas.
Phil was a great climber and adventurer; he loved
singing and was never happier than when relating
stories of his travels and adventures with Lynne in far-
flung places.
We send our love to Lynne, Chris, Sarah and all the
family.
Phil’s funeral service will take place on Friday 15
November in St Nicholas Church at a time to be
decided.
All Souls’ commemoration
A special Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance
for loved ones who have died will be held at 7.00pm
next Friday in St Leonard’s church, Broughton Hackett.
You are, of course, very welcome to attend the service
just to sit and remember a special person quietly in
your heart.
There will be time for remembering and for reflection
and an opportunity to light a candle in their memory.
If you would like a friend or relative specially
remembered at the service please do let me have the
name(s) in advance and before Sunday 27 October if
at all possible.
Please email me: [email protected] or
phone: 01386 860389. Thank you.
Bible Sunday
The last Sunday after Trinity is designated in the
calendar of the Church of England as Bible Sunday; a
day where we give thanks for the Bible and reflect on
how the age-old words still relate to us and help us in
a life of faith today.
As of September 2024 all of the Bible has been
translated into 756 languages, the New Testament has
been translated into an additional 1,726 languages,
and smaller portions of the Bible have been translated
into 1,274 other languages according to Bible
translators, Wycliffe Global Alliance.
Being able to read and study the Bible in our mother
tongue or heart language is important so that we can
fully understand and apply the Word to our daily lives.
The Word of God is a precious gift, filled with wisdom,
love, and guidance. Let's not just seek it out on
Sundays but make it a part of our daily lives. Amen
Amen.
Open Deanery Service
There will be a Deanery service of Holy Communion,
open for everyone to take part, on Tuesday 12
November 2024 at 7:00pm at All Saints’ Church
Evesham WR11 4RW. The theme is Journeying
Together Towards the Light and will be led by
Archdeacon Mark Badger.
