Trinity 20 - Collect
God, the giver of life,
whose Holy Spirit wells up within your Church:
by the Spirit’s gifts equip us to live the gospel of Christ
and make us eager to do your will,
that we may share with the whole creation
the joys of eternal life;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

At this this time
The days get darker and shorter; the evenings longer;
the leaves are changing and falling and we are aware
that we are moving towards the dying of the year.
Thoughts inevitably turn towards remembering and
commemorating…..happy times as well as sad.
On 10 November in each of our 4 benefice churches
there will be Acts of Remembrance and nothing can
be more pertinent or meaningful this year than to
remember all those who have died in war, as we look
at the world around us. There seems to be
unstoppable and unresolvable conflict on every side
with the death and injury of so many people of all
creeds and politics across the globe.
A little earlier in the month on 3 November we
commemorate the Festival of All Saints – those more
famous names who have taught and influenced many
across the generations by their faith, work and in so
many cases their suffering and death for God and His
Kingdom.
A day to remember ….
For All the Saints who from their labours rest.
Two days before, on Friday 1 November we have our
own personal time for memory and reflection. A time
when we can look back and think of all those family
members and friends whom we no longer see but we
love and miss. Those who have helped us, influenced
us, guided us and loved us during our lives.
The Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for All
Souls for the Bowland Benefice will be held at 7.00pm
on 1 November in St Leonard’s church, Broughton
Hackett. Please do come along for this special service,
you will be made very welcome.
There will be time for remembering and for reflection
and an opportunity to light a candle in their memory.
If you would like a friend or relative specially
remembered at the service please do let me have the
name(s) in advance and before Saturday 26 October if
at all possible.
Please email me: [email protected] or
phone: 01386 860389.
Thank you.
A Prayer for today.
Lord Jesus Christ,
you turned no one away who sought your help,
hear my prayer.
Bring healing, strength and comfort to those who
need it.
Bring courage and hope to all who suffer in body,
mind or spirit,
Bring reason, compassion and humility to those in
power,
And bless us, your children with your loving presence
this day. Amen.
