Don’t forget, this Saturday 21 September a fish and
chip supper with quiz will be held in Upton Snodsbury
Village Hall beginning at 6.00pm.
Quiz teams can be up to a maximum of 6 people.
Tickets cost £12.00 each from Helen on 01905 381490

As we enjoy some of the beautiful autumn days and
colours that the month of September brings, Janet
Russell found this beautiful poem:
The first faint hint on what is yet to be,
a pinkish tint upon the cherry tree.
The old Virginia creepers turning red,
around the timbers of the garden shed.
Lovely in its dying, yet how beautiful,
September’s golden leaves.
The autumn miracle as sure as clocks and calendars,
the year when growing old,
cloaks the woods in glory,
bronze, crimson, amber, gold.
The fires of nature’s making,
the flames no man can stay,
the mighty conflagration that runs from day to day
Like torches, blaze the branches in wood
and garden bower,
September fades, but not,
before it lives its finest hour.
And thoughts turn to harvest time.
My husband, born and brought up in London, was
always bemused by the real meaning of ‘seed time
and harvest’. Now nearly in his ninth decade….(I can’t
believe it – where did all those years go?) he has
learned to appreciate what in the past, a good harvest
meant in a rural community – the difference between
surviving the winter or not. And indeed why harvest
time is still a reason for celebration and giving to
others.
