Ascension Day

When I think of Ascension Day, I always remember a
picture I saw when I was a child - or maybe the years
have just played tricks with my memory!.......
It was a black and white cartoon-type picture of a big
cloud with just a pair of legs, from about the knees
downward sticking out beneath it! The legs were
mostly covered in a white robe and the feet, with the
heels down and the toes at a 45 degree angle to the
legs, wore a pair of what were then called, ‘Jesus’
sandals. I never cease to be amazed at what the
human brain chooses to remember.
Thursday 9 th May is Ascension Day and as in the last
few years, the Bowland Benefice community has
been invited by Revd Sarah Dangerfield and the
Five Alive Parish to join them in a service of
Holy Communion for Ascension Day. This year’s
service is at St Michael’s, Cropthorne at 7.00pm.
A message from the Diocesan Safeguarding

Team….

“Please help us with our forthcoming safeguarding
audit, by completing a confidential, anonymous
survey on your impressions and experiences of
safeguarding in the Diocese.

We would like as many people as possible to fill this
in before the survey closes on 1 May.
Your views matter - we want your voice to be

heard. Visit:

As we all know from the television, newspapers etc
even in our rural communities and churches things
happen that shouldn’t. Please do help our Church of
England to put things right for now and the future.
Christian Aid Week is almost upon us again!
12 to 19 May - 7 days, so many ways…
The Christian Aid Charity has a challenge for us all….
With your help, we can work towards a world where
families can escape the trap of poverty and fulfil their
ambitions. Seven days, so many ways to fund lasting

change.

Fundraise with us, from community events to
individual challenges, Christian Aid Week is seven days
of fundraising fun – your way, to fund lasting change.
Take part and fundraise as part of our new 70K in May
challenge or choose your own event.
However you fundraise, together we can beat extreme

poverty.

With your support, more families can build reliable
and diverse incomes that bring them food security,
better health, safer homes, increased resilience and

hope.
Prayer for this week
God give me your peace,
and then help me to give it away. Amen.
