BCP Gathering

Venue
St Peter, Bengeworth
Address
Port Street Evesham, WR11 4BP, United Kingdom

The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) was written in the mid 1500s by the reformer Thomas Cranmer. It is widely considered to be one of the most important works of English literature ever written. It is still much loved due to the beauty of the traditional language and remains a significant source of doctrine for the Church of England.

At the 8am you’ll find a peaceful, reflective space with no sung worship where we journey through silence, ancient liturgy (the words used to structure a worship gathering) and share the eucharist together.

‘Eucharist’ comes from a Greek word meaning ‘to give thanks’ and it’s a word we use for the meal Jesus shared with his closest followers the night before he was betrayed and killed and which we now also share as the Church.

Our gathering is traditional in feel with rousing hymns, time for contemplative prayer and a short talk culminating in the breaking of bread and sharing wine as we remember that Jesus died so that we can know God as our loving Heavenly Father. At the end, the words of the dismissal remind us that we gather in order to be scattered and invite others to join God’s family.

The emphasis in this gathering is on Inspiring worship, making space for God’s Spirit to meet with us, and learning from the Bible together. We worship God with contemporary songs, using creative media and take time to get to grips with what God’s word means for us today.

The teaching here is a bit more in-depth than at our other gatherings and people of all ages are warmly welcome (see ‘Children and Young People’). We also share communion on the first Sunday of the month.
