About Us
We are a growing evangelical church of more than 200 adults, children and young people committed to Christian worship, teaching, discipleship and evangelism.
We aim to provide a contemporary and informal setting to enable people to discover the real Jesus Christ as presented to us in the Bible. We believe passionately that God continues to speak to his people today through his Word. We also want to be able to help people grow as Christian disciples, to be better equipped to live the Christian life and to take the message of the good news of Jesus to others.
Christ Church brings together four Christian denominations (Baptist, Church of England, Methodist, United Reformed) as one Christian congregation. Our membership also draws in those from other Christian traditions. Essentially, however, we are simply a group of Christians seeking to be faithful to Jesus in our lives and our witness.
Our aims
We have adopted the mission statement “to follow Jesus in every way”, to express our desire to model our own lives upon that of our Lord himself, to follow him as disciples and to win others, under God, for his name. To do this we have adopted five main aims:
*To honour God as Father, Son and Spirit. To be committed as a church to our corporate life together and to undergird all of our work in prayer.
*To give priority to our personal spiritual growth as Christians.
*To show the love of God in practical care within and beyond the Church.
*To reach out into the community with the message of personal salvation in Jesus Christ.
*To harness all of our resources in God’s service.
Spiritual priorities
Our worship services are lively and informal, characterised by biblical preaching, praise and prayer. We make use of contemporary music, use of video and other multi-media technology, testimony, drama and prayer ministry. We share the Lord’s Supper together on a regular basis. Prayer is encouraged both individually and corporately, within services, home groups and prayer meetings.
Reaching out
We have a wide range of evangelistic activities ranging from Alpha courses, open youth work, assemblies in the local schools and a monthly lunch club to family support through parenting, marriage and bereavement work.
Do come and join us. And pray for us and for the work of God in this place.
