Barnsley Deanery Lent Course at St. George's Church, York Street, Barnsley.

Every Wednesday Evening in Lent, beginning on Wednesday 12th March 2025 at 7.00pm.

The course is entitled “The evolution of Holy Communion” and has 5 weekly talks.

Each of the talks will be followed by a brief talk-themed service of Holy Communion.

12th March - The Early Church: 'Picking up were Jesus left off?'
19th March - Celtic Influence: 'The unique fusion of the Bristish Church'
26th March - The Prayer Book: 'From Church in England to Church of England'
2nd April - Barnsley's Heritage: 'The Oxford Movement and Anglo-Catholic Revival'
9th April - Modernity: 'The Push for Unity - That All may be One'

St Helen's Church Athersley

St. Helen's is the Church of England parish church for Athersley, Barnsley. We worship together on Sundays and daily throughout the week to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ, hear his word preached from the Bible, and receive him through the offering of the Mass. Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to the doctrines and practices of the Catholic faith as received by the Church of England, both through the word and our deeds to love the Lord our God, to love our neighbours and love each other in our fellowship. We are committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and our services aim to put faith into practice through prayer and scripture, music and sacrament.
