The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord normally falls on 25th March, but since that date falls on the Monday of Holy Week in 2024, this feast is transferred to Monday 8th April. The Annunciation celebrates the coming of the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary and announcing to her that she is to be the mother of the Saviour.

St Helen's Church Athersley

St. Helen's is the Church of England parish church for Athersley, Barnsley. We worship together on Sundays and daily throughout the week to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ, hear his word preached from the Bible, and receive him through the offering of the Mass. Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to the doctrines and practices of the Catholic faith as received by the Church of England, both through the word and our deeds to love the Lord our God, to love our neighbours and love each other in our fellowship. We are committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and our services aim to put faith into practice through prayer and scripture, music and sacrament.
