We are a friendly group of Christians meeting regularly in this beautiful Parish Church, set in the lovely Pennine village of Marsden.  We would love you to join us in our worship and to take part, with us, in this spiritual journey of exploration of the Christian faith.  

St Bartholomew’s Church is situated at the head of the Colne valley, lying in the picturesque hilly moorland and pastures of the south Pennines, on the borders of West Yorkshire and Lancashire.

About the church:  The building of the present church is mainly due to the efforts of the Rev Buller. The architect was William Henry Crossland, who had been a pupil of Sir George Gilbert Scott. Two of Crossland’s most notable buildings are Rochdale Town Hall (1871) and the Founders Building at Royal Holloway College, Surrey (1888).  Crossland drew up the plans for the church in 1865, yet it wasn’t until the 1890’s that work on the building commenced, under the guidance of architect Hodgson Fowler of Durham. The cost of the church was £10,000 and seated an impressive 800.  The nave and side aisles were completed in 1895, the chancel and Lady Chapel in 1899, and finally the tower and Baptistery were added in 1911.
