The work to be done, on the 3rd and 4th July is: • Reduce the overhang of the tree on the Lidget Street boundary. This will minimise the risk to passing vehicle traffic.• Complete removal of a tree on the Plover Road boundary. This chestnut tree is showing signs of canker, a disease that cause internal decay, causing cracking and splitting of the timber. If left unchecked this could lead to the tree collapsing under its own weight. The serious risk posed is of significant danger to both Plover Road traffic and the general public, at both sides of the road.We are hoping there will be minimal disruption during these works and traffic management will be in place to mitigate risk to passing traffic and pedestrians. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Parish Office on 01484 970555 orby email ststephenslindley@gmail.com
We’ve once again taken part in ‘No Mow May’ which is a national scheme to encourage wild flowers and environment care by leaving an area of grass uncut for the month. As part of the Eco Church scheme, we’re changing our mowing regime by raising the height of the mower blades and cutting less frequently. This will result in a thicker grass covering, encouraging low lying wild flowers. It will also reduce the radiated heat emitted from the ground into the atmosphere, so we’ll be doing our bit to slow climate change. New life is emerging in the churchyard as there is a nesting pair of blue tits in one of our nest boxes. They’ve been quite noisy of late and can be clearly heard. June 8th is the start of ‘Love Your Burial Ground’ week and as part of this Junior Church will be making a bug hotel as part of their meeting on June 9th. Later in June we will be welcoming some Lindley Infants School children to see our bug hotel and find out about its construction and inhabitants.
