Today marks the start of our 200th celebrations. at 11am on Thursday 24th May 1821, the very first service was held in Christ Church.200 years, 13 vicars, 2 building alterations, 4 internal alterations, 3 organs and 3 sets of bells later Christ Church is still serving the Parish.Talk of a new church started at the Wharf Inn in 1803. By 1817 after a deadlock of some 14years a meeting was held in the Bulls Head Inn, public subscription was opened to pay for the new church. The site for the church was exchanged for the land of the old chapel with Mr William and George Greenup. John Oakes was appointed as the architect. The foundation stone was laid by Mr. Thomas Dyson esq. on April 22<sup>nd</sup>, 1819.The church was opened under licence from the Archbishop of York with the consecration 2 years later.

This Calderdale Libraries’ project in Sowerby Bridge will be starting up very soon…….By way of reminder, Something in the Air? is funded as part of the national Engaging Libraries 2 programme and it aims to engage local people of all ages, in and around Sowerby Bridge, with research around air quality and health. The project is supported by researchers at the University of Manchester.Between March and September, there will be a series of free events, where attendees can hear from specialists and ask questions about all sorts of issues around air quality and health.People living in Sowerby Bridge will also be able to borrow and experiment with 2 types of portable air quality monitor, for measuring indoor and outdoor air quality, and to share and discuss their findings.A Year 6 class at Bolton Brow Primary Academy will also be involved with the project.Our first event will be held on Zoom on Wednesday March 3<sup>rd</sup> at 7pm.
